Nina Auerbach
Abraham "Bram" Stoker was an Irish author best known for his 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula.
Born in Dublin in 1847, Stoker overcame childhood illness to excel academically and athletically at Trinity College.
He worked as a civil servant and theatre critic before becoming the business manager of actor Henry Irving's Lyceum Theatre in London.
This position allowed Stoker to travel and mingle with high society, influencing his writing.
Married to Florence Balcombe, Stoker wrote several novels and short stories throughout his life.
He died in 1912, leaving behind a literary legacy that continues to influence horror fiction and popular culture.
