Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso, known as the 14th Dalai Lama, is a prominent figure in Tibetan Buddhism and global politics. Born to a farming family, he was recognized as the Dalai Lama at age two. He became Tibet's ruler at 15, shortly after China's invasion. After failed peace talks with Mao Zedong, he fled to India in 1959, establishing the Tibetan Government in Exile.
