Her debut novel, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, became a New York Times Bestseller and National Book Awards finalist.
Sánchez grew up in Cicero, Illinois, as the daughter of undocumented Mexican immigrants.
She earned degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of New Mexico.
Sánchez has received numerous fellowships and awards for her writing, including a Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship.
