Jonathan Coe, born on 19 August 1961 in Birmingham, is a British novelist whose work blends sharp political satire with comedy and social observation.
Educated at King Edward's School in Birmingham and Trinity College, Cambridge, he later taught at the University of Warwick, where he completed a PhD in English Literature.
His novels frequently engage with British politics and culture, often using inventive narrative structures — most famously reimagining a spoof horror film in What a Carve Up! to critique Thatcherism.
In 2006, he received an honorary degree from the University of Birmingham, near his hometown roots.
