Graduating as a staff captain in 1905, he rose to prominence during the Dardanelles campaign in 1915.
He launched Turkey's independence movement on 19 May 1919, eventually establishing the Republic of Turkey on 29 October 1923, serving as its first president.
He implemented sweeping modernization reforms, including secularizing education, granting women equal rights, and changing the alphabet.
He died on 10 November 1938, leaving an enduring legacy.
