He authored several influential works, most notably Class and Conflict in Industrial Society (1959) and Essays in the Theory of Society (1968).
His political career spanned roles including Member of the German Parliament, European Commissioner, and Member of the British House of Lords, where he was known as Lord Dahrendorf.
He also served as director of the London School of Economics and Warden of St Antony's College, Oxford.
