Robert Wachter, MD is Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at UCSF. He has authored 300 articles and 6 books, including the New York Times bestseller "The Digital Doctor." Wachter coined the term "hospitalist," now the fastest-growing medical specialty in U.S. history.
He is a past-president of the Society of Hospital Medicine, past-chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and member of the National Academy of Medicine.
He received the 2004 John M. Eisenberg Award for patient safety and has been ranked among the 50 most influential physician-executives in the U.S. by Modern Healthcare magazine over a dozen times, reaching #1 in 2015.
