Alistair Urquhart
Alistair Urquhart was a Scottish veteran and author who survived brutal captivity as a Japanese POW during World War II. His memoir, The Forgotten Highlander, details his experiences in Singapore, on the Burma Railway, and in Japan.
Urquhart endured extreme hardships, including starvation, disease, and torture, while witnessing countless atrocities.
After the war, he returned to Scotland and became a successful businessman.
Despite suffering from PTSD and lifelong health issues, Urquhart lived to age 97.
He wrote his book at 90, driven by a desire to share his story and ensure the suffering of Far East POWs was not forgotten.
