David Adams Richards, born October 17, 1950, in Newcastle, New Brunswick, is one of Canada's most decorated writers, working across fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and screenwriting.
He attended St. Thomas University but left just short of completing his degree.
Richards is among only three writers to have won Governor General's Awards in both fiction and non-fiction categories, claiming the 1988 fiction award for Nights Below Station Street and the 1998 non-fiction award for Lines on the Water.
He also co-won the 2000 Giller Prize for Mercy Among the Children.
He resides in Toronto with his wife Peggy.
