Emma ("Emmuska") Magdolna Rozália Mária Jozefa Borbála Orczy de Orczi was a Hungarian-British novelist and artist.
Born in Hungary to a noble family, she moved to London as a teenager.
Orczy studied art and married Montague Barstow, collaborating with him on illustrations.
She began writing detective stories for magazines before achieving fame with The Scarlet Pimpernel in 1903.
The novel's success led to sequels and adaptations.
Orczy also created the popular detective character "The Old Man in the Corner." Her works were influenced by her aristocratic background and experiences living in different European countries.
