Ergun Mehmet Caner is Dean of the Graduate School of Theology at Arlington Baptist University.
He is the brother of Emir Fethi Caner, President of Truett McConnell University.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Ergun moved to Ohio as a child.
According to his account, he was raised Muslim by his father after his parents' divorce, converting to Christianity during high school through a friend's invitation to church.
His father subsequently disowned him.
His academic career has included positions at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary as dean (2005-2011) and President of Brewton-Parker College (2013-2015), though he faced controversy regarding statements about his background.
