George Saunders was born in 1958 in Chicago.
He earned a B.S. in Geophysical Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and worked various jobs before pursuing an MA in creative writing at Syracuse University.
Saunders has been an Assistant Professor in Syracuse's Creative Writing Program since 1997 and has taught at numerous other institutions.
He is known for his short stories and his debut novel, Lincoln in the Bardo.
Saunders is married with two children and supports a charity educating Tibetan refugee children in Nepal.
His diverse work experience includes technical writing, environmental engineering, and various blue-collar jobs.
