Henry Gray
Henry Gray was an English anatomist and surgeon born in 1827.
He studied at St. George's Hospital in London and became known for his meticulous work.
Gray achieved early success, winning prizes for his research on nerves and the spleen.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society at 25.
In 1858, he published the first edition of Gray's Anatomy, which became a highly influential medical textbook.
The book's success was partly due to its excellent illustrations by Henry Vandyke Carter.
Gray held various positions at St. George's Hospital but tragically died of smallpox in 1861 at age 34.
