Richard Armitage
Heather Morris is a New Zealand-born author now living in Australia.
She works in a public hospital in Melbourne and previously studied screenwriting.
In 2003, Morris met Lale Sokolov, an elderly Holocaust survivor who shared his story with her over several years.
She initially wrote Lale's story as a screenplay, which performed well in international competitions.
Morris later adapted the screenplay into her debut novel, The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
The book is based on Lale's experiences as a prisoner and tattooist at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during World War II. Morris's friendship with Lale and his willingness to share his memories formed the foundation for her novel.
