Born in 1942, he earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan.
Solomon's expertise focused on 19th-century German philosophy and 20th-century Continental philosophy.
He authored over 40 books, developed a cognitivist theory of emotions, and argued that romantic love is a cultural construct rather than an inherent state.
Solomon received numerous teaching awards and was known for his lectures on Nietzsche and existentialist philosophers.
He made a cameo in the film "Waking Life" and collaborated on several books with his wife, philosopher Kathleen Higgins.
Solomon passed away in 2007 at Zurich airport.
