Robert Maynard Pirsig was an American writer and philosopher best known for his philosophical novels.
His debut work, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values" (1974), became a cult classic, exploring themes of quality, rationality, and human values through a motorcycle journey narrative.
Pirsig's second novel, "Lila: An Inquiry into Morals" (1991), further developed his philosophical ideas.
Despite personal struggles, including a mental breakdown and electroconvulsive therapy, Pirsig's work significantly impacted modern philosophy and literature.
His final book, co-authored with his wife Wendy K. Pirsig, was published posthumously in 2022.
