Vigdis Hjorth was born in 1959 and is a Norwegian novelist who grew up in Oslo.
She studied philosophy, literature, and political science before beginning her writing career.
Her debut novel, the children's book "Pelle-Ragnar i den gule gården," was published in 1983 and earned her Norsk kulturråd's debut award.
Her first adult novel, "Drama med Hilde," appeared in 1987.
"Om bare" from 2001 is regarded as her most significant work and is considered a roman à clef.
Hjorth has three children and resides in Asker, Norway.
Several of her novels have been translated into English by Charlotte Barslund, bringing her work to international audiences.
