Vine Deloria Jr.
Vine Victor Deloria, Jr. was a prominent Native American author, theologian, historian, and activist.
He gained national recognition for his 1969 book "Custer Died for Your Sins: An Indian Manifesto." Deloria served as executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, significantly increasing tribal membership.
He had a distinguished academic career, teaching at various universities and establishing the first master's degree program in American Indian Studies at the University of Arizona.
Deloria was also instrumental in the development of the National Museum of the American Indian.
His work focused on Native American issues, challenging mainstream perceptions and advocating for indigenous rights and cultural preservation.
