Vladimir Bartol
Vladimir Bartol was a Slovenian writer born in 1903 in Trieste.
Raised in an intellectual family, he developed diverse interests including biology, philosophy, and psychology.
Bartol studied in Ljubljana and Paris, and was influenced by Nietzsche and Freud.
He worked as a writer and editor, participating in the resistance during World War II. After the war, he lived in Trieste for a decade before returning to Ljubljana.
Bartol was elected to the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts as an associate member.
He continued working for the Academy until his death in 1967.
Bartol is best known for his novel Alamut, which gained international recognition.
