Alasdair Chalmers MacIntyre was a British-American philosopher renowned for his contributions to moral and political philosophy, the history of philosophy, and theology.
His landmark work, After Virtue (1981), is considered one of the most important texts in Anglophone moral and political philosophy of the 20th century.
He served as a senior research fellow at London Metropolitan University's Centre for Contemporary Aristotelian Studies in Ethics and Politics, and as emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.
His distinguished academic career also included teaching positions at Brandeis, Duke, Vanderbilt, and Boston universities.
