Roddy Doyle, known in Irish as Ruaidhrí Ó Dúill, is a celebrated Irish novelist, dramatist, and screenwriter.
Born and raised in Kilbarrack, Dublin, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from University College, Dublin, before spending several years teaching English and geography.
He became a full-time writer in 1993, the same year he won the prestigious Booker Prize.
His work has achieved both critical acclaim and popular success, with several novels adapted into successful films, most notably The Commitments in 1991.
He is widely regarded as one of Ireland's most distinctive and important contemporary literary voices.
