Sebastian Barry is a celebrated Irish playwright, novelist, and poet, widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest contemporary writers.
His career began in poetry before transitioning to theatre and fiction, with his novels ultimately bringing him greatest acclaim.
He has twice been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, for A Long Long Way (2005) and The Secret Scripture (2008), the latter winning the Costa Book of the Year and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
He won the Costa Book of the Year again in 2017 for Days Without End.
Barry is noted for his dense, richly literary writing style.
