Anchee Min (閔安琪) is a Chinese-American memoirist and novelist known for her works exploring Chinese history and culture.
At seventeen, she was sent to a labor collective during China's Cultural Revolution, where she was recruited by Madame Mao's Shanghai Film Studio as an actress.
In 1984, she moved to the United States to study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, earning both B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees.
Her first memoir, Red Azalea, became an international bestseller published in twenty countries.
According to her biography, Min learned English from Sesame Street, which makes her literary accomplishments particularly remarkable.
