Charles Duchaussois was born on 27 January 1940 to a diplomatic family, losing sight in one eye as an infant during an air raid.
After a troubled youth involving theft, fraud, and imprisonment, he traveled from Lebanon to Kathmandu during the late 1960s hippie movement, experiencing profound drug addiction.
He recorded his journey on magnetic tapes, published as Flash in 1970.
His later life remained turbulent — marked by continued addiction, multiple marriages, and a 1978 imprisonment for homicide.
He died of lung cancer on 27 February 1991, and rests in an unmarked grave.
