Guadalupe Garcia McCall was born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States at age six, settling in Eagle Pass, a small border town in South Texas.
This bicultural upbringing deeply influences her writing.
She earned a BA in Theatre Arts and English from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, West Texas, where she also met her husband, Jim.
Together they have three grown sons.
McCall's debut novel, Under the Mesquite, won the Pura Belpré Prize.
She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of English at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, where she resides with her husband.
