Layla Martínez was born in Madrid in 1987 with roots in Cuenca.
She studied Political Science at the Universidad Complutense and later earned a master's in Sexology.
A published poet since 2012, she also authored the essay Utopía no es una isla in 2020.
Her 2021 novel Carcoma brought her widespread recognition, winning the Premio Ignotus for Best Short Novel and the Festival 42 Revelation Award.
It was nominated for the 2022 Celsius Award and, remarkably, the 2024 National Book Award.
She also contributes journalism to outlets including Eldiario.es and El Salto.
