Her New York Times bestselling debut novel in verse, Alone, won numerous awards including the Colorado Book Award and multiple state children's book awards.

Freeman is also a Pushcart Prize-nominated poet and published the poetry chapbook Lessons on Sleeping Alone.
An award-winning teacher with decades of experience, she leads workshops and speaks nationally.
