Quiara Alegría Hudes is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and author from West Philadelphia.
She won the Pulitzer for Drama in 2012 for Water By the Spoonful and co-authored the Tony-winning musical In the Heights with Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Known for exuberant, intellectually rigorous work with rich imagination, her plays and musicals have been performed worldwide.
She also wrote the screenplay adaptation of In the Heights.
A self-described barrio feminist, Hudes co-founded Emancipated Stories with her cousin, a volunteer-run collection of writings by incarcerated individuals.
