Helio Vera (1946-2008) was a Paraguayan narrator, journalist, and lawyer from Villarrica who studied law at the National University of Asunción.
He became known for his mordant journalism critically reflecting on Paraguayan culture while writing for ABC Color.
In the 1980s, he published short story collections including Angola y otros cuentos, which won the "El Lector" prize.
His story Destinadas received first prize in 1992.
A pioneer of online literary distribution, he also wrote sociological and folkloric studies, notably En busca del hueso perdido, which won the V Centenario prize from Spain's embassy and the Institute of Iberoamerican Cooperation.
