Larry Jay Diamond (born October 2, 1951) is a political sociologist and leading scholar in democracy studies.
He serves as a professor of Sociology and Political Science at Stanford University and senior fellow at the Hoover Institution.
Diamond directs Stanford's Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.
He has advised the U.S. State Department, United Nations, World Bank, and USAID. Diamond is founding co-editor of the Journal of Democracy and coordinates the Hoover Institution's Iran Democracy Project.
He has published extensively on democracy, foreign policy, and international development.
