Joseph Boyden is a Canadian novelist and short story writer of Irish, Scottish, and Métis heritage, raised in Willowdale, North York, Ontario.
He attended Brebeuf College School before studying creative writing at York University and the University of New Orleans.
Boyden writes extensively about First Nations heritage and culture.
His debut novel, Three Day Road, inspired by legendary Ojibwa sniper Francis Pegahmagabow, launched a planned trilogy continued in Through Black Spruce.
He has taught in the Aboriginal Student Program at Northern College and divides his time between Louisiana, where he and his wife are writers in residence, and Northern Ontario.
