Kristien Dieltiens received artistic and pedagogical training and has worked extensively with children since 1974, drawing inspiration for her writing from this experience.
A mother of five, she debuted in 1997 with a picture book and published her first youth novel, Olrac, in 2000, which won the Flemish Child and Youth Jury Prize in 2002.
Over fifteen years, she wrote fifty books covering challenging topics like abuse, poverty, and war.
Her work is known for creating immersive worlds with vivid imagery and emotions.
Kelderkind, her fiftieth book, resulted from eight years of research into the historical figure Kaspar Hauser.
