Nathacha Appanah is a Mauritian-French author born into a traditional Indian family.
She spent her formative years in Mauritius, where she worked as a journalist and columnist for publications including Le Mauricien and Week-End Scope before emigrating to France.
Since 1998, she has established herself as a prominent literary voice.
Her debut novel, Les Rochers de Poudre d'Or, published by Éditions Gallimard, explored Indian immigration to Mauritius and won the Prix du Livre RFO. Subsequent works, including Blue Bay Palace, La Noce d'Anna, and Le Dernier Frère, further cemented her reputation, the latter earning the prestigious Prix FNAC in 2007.
