Charles W. Mills
Charles W. Mills was a Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at The Graduate Center, CUNY, specializing in social and political philosophy focused on class, gender, and race.
He authored over one hundred scholarly publications and six books.
The Racial Contract (1997) won a Myers Outstanding Book Award and has been translated into multiple languages.
His second book, Blackness Visible (1998), was a finalist for North America's most important work in social philosophy.
Mills earned his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and served as President of the American Philosophical Association Central Division (2017-18).
He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2017.
