Kiran Desai is an Indian author and US permanent resident, daughter of acclaimed writer Anita Desai.
Her debut novel Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard (1998) won the Betty Trask Award and garnered praise from Salman Rushdie.
Her second novel, The Inheritance of Loss (2006), won the Man Booker Prize and National Book Critics Circle Fiction Award.
After a nineteen-year gap, she published The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny (2025), shortlisted for the 2025 Booker Prize.
