Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai was born and raised in Vietnam and holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Lancaster University.
The Mountains Sing, her international bestseller and first English-language novel, won numerous prestigious awards including the 2020 BookBrowse Best Debut Award and 2021 PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award.
She has published twelve books in Vietnamese and English, receiving Vietnam's top literary honors including Poetry of the Year 2010.
Her work has been translated into twenty languages and featured in major publications like the New York Times.
Forbes Vietnam named her one of 20 inspiring women of 2021.
Her second English novel, Dust Child, was published in March 2023.
