Antonio Skármeta
Esteban Antonio Skármeta Vranicic was a celebrated Chilean writer, scriptwriter, and director of Croatian descent, with roots tracing back to the Adriatic island of Brač, Dalmatia.
Born into an immigrant family, Skármeta became one of Latin America's most distinguished literary voices, known for his poetic prose, warmth, and humanistic storytelling.
His works frequently explore themes of political exile, love, and identity, often set against the backdrop of Chile's turbulent history.
His most internationally recognized work is El cartero de Neruda.
In 2014, he was honored with Chile's prestigious National Literature Prize.
