Candice Carty-Williams was born in 1989 to Jamaican parents and studied Media at Sussex University, defying teachers who doubted her academic abilities.
She began her career at the Guardian Guide before moving into publishing at 23, where she has focused on marketing literary fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels.
A passionate advocate for diverse voices, she created the Guardian and 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize in 2016 to champion Black, Asian, and minority ethnic writers.
She also contributes regularly to publications including Refinery29 and i-D, establishing herself as an influential figure in contemporary British publishing.
