Brian Moore was an Irish-Canadian author born in Belfast in 1921.
He left Ireland during World War II and settled in Canada in 1948, where he began his writing career.
Moore's breakthrough novel, "The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne," was published in 1955.
He went on to write 19 more novels in various styles, from realistic to historical fiction.
Three of his works were shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
Moore moved to California in 1964 to work on film scripts and taught at UCLA for 15 years.
He described himself as a "stateless wanderer" who had lost his sense of home.
Moore passed away in 1999, leaving behind a diverse literary legacy.
