Laura Restrepo is a Colombian writer whose debut fiction novel, Isle of Passion, drew from historical events at Clipperton Island.
She has received numerous prestigious literary awards throughout her career.
In 1997, she won the Premio Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz for The Angel of Galilea at the Guadalajara Book Fair.
Her novel Leopard in the Sun earned the Premio Arzobispo San Clemente Award in 2002.
Delirio won the VII Premio Alfaguara de Novela in 2004, followed by Italy's Grinzane Cavour Prize for best foreign fiction in 2006 and a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in 2007.
Her work Dulce Compañía received France's Prix France Culture.
