Margery Sharp was born Clara Margery Melita Sharp in Salisbury, England, spending part of her childhood in Malta.
A remarkably prolific writer, she produced 26 novels, 14 children's stories, 4 plays, 2 mysteries, and numerous short stories throughout her career.
She is perhaps best remembered for her beloved children's series featuring Miss Bianca, a little white mouse, and her companion Bernard — stories that inspired two Disney films: The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under.
In 1938, Sharp married Major Geoffrey Castle, an aeronautical engineer.
Her adult fiction, including Cluny Brown, showcases her gift for sharp social observation and wit.
