Robert B. Parker was a celebrated American mystery writer best known for his 40-novel Spenser series, which revitalized the detective genre and inspired the ABC television series Spenser: For Hire.
His works are deeply rooted in the Boston metropolitan area.
Beyond Spenser, Parker created nine Jesse Stone novels featuring an LA cop relocating to a New England town, six Sunny Randall novels starring a female private investigator, and four Westerns featuring Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch.
The first Western, Appaloosa, was adapted into a film starring Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen.
