Stanley Aronowitz (1933–2021) was a prominent American sociologist, cultural critic, and political activist who served as a professor of sociology, cultural studies, and urban education at the CUNY Graduate Center.
A lifelong advocate for organized labor, he was deeply committed to working-class issues and participatory democracy, serving as a member of the interim consultative committee of the International Organization for a Participatory Society.
His contributions to academia and activism were widely recognized, earning him the Center for Study of Working Class Life's Lifetime Achievement Award at Stony Brook University in 2012.
He authored the book Taking it Big.
