Dr. Amanda H. Podany is a historian specializing in the ancient Near East and professor emeritus at Cal Poly Pomona.
Her acclaimed book Weavers, Scribes, and Kings (Oxford UP, 2022), which she also narrates in audiobook format, recounts over 3,000 years of history through diverse perspectives.
Her other works include The Ancient Near East: A Very Short Introduction and Brotherhood of Kings, which won the Norris and Carol Hundley Award.
She presents a Great Courses lecture series on Ancient Mesopotamia and holds degrees from UCLA and University of London.
Notably, she was the original bass player for the band that became the Bangles.
