Marguerite de Angeli
Marguerite de Angeli was an American author and illustrator of children's literature, best known for winning the 1950 Newbery Award for The Door in the Wall.
Throughout her prolific career, she created twenty-eight books that she both wrote and illustrated herself, demonstrating remarkable talent in both literary and visual arts.
Beyond her own works, de Angeli illustrated more than three dozen books for other authors, along with numerous magazine stories and articles.
Born in 1889, she had a special talent for historical detail and creating rich, authentic settings in her stories, particularly medieval contexts.
