Walter R. Borneman, born in 1952, is an American historian and lawyer specializing in 18th and 19th century United States history.
He earned his B.A. in 1974 and M.A. in history in 1975 from Western State College of Colorado, writing his thesis on "Irwin: silver camp of the Ruby Mountains." In 1981, he received a law degree from the University of Denver and practiced law.
Known for accessible popular history books, his works often focus on western United States expansion and military history.
His 2012 book, The Admirals, examines the five-star admirals who won World War II at sea.
