David Peace was born in 1967 in Ossett, near Wakefield, Yorkshire.
After studying in Manchester, he taught English in Istanbul before relocating to Tokyo in 1994, where he continues to live with his family.
His formative years were deeply shaped by the Yorkshire Ripper crimes, inspiring his acclaimed Red Riding Quartet — four crime novels exploring Yorkshire's dark underbelly, published between 1999 and 2002.
In 2003, Granta named him one of Britain's twenty Best Young Novelists.
His subsequent works include GB84, set during the miners' strike, and his fiction characteristically blends historical fact with literary invention and stylistic intensity.
