Michel Jean is an Innu writer from the Mashteuiatsh community in Quebec.
He has published eleven novels.
His acclaimed work Kukum, released by Libre Expression in Canada and Depaysage and Points in France, won the France-Québec Prize 2020 along with the VLEEL and Nature Nomade prizes, plus the Best Novel Prize from Points readers and booksellers in 2023.
Jean's writing focuses on Indigenous experiences, particularly addressing historical trauma, cultural identity, and contemporary challenges faced by First Nations communities in Canada.
