Henry George was an American writer, politician, and political economist born in 1839 in Philadelphia.
Rising from humble beginnings with little formal education, he became one of the most influential economic thinkers of the 19th century.
After experiencing poverty firsthand in San Francisco, he developed his landmark philosophy, Georgism, arguing that natural resources belong equally to all humanity.
His belief that people should own what they create, but share the value of land collectively, earned him international recognition.
Progress and Poverty (1879) brought him worldwide fame, and his ideas influenced figures across the political spectrum, from progressive reformers to libertarian thinkers.
