Peter Hessler is an accomplished American journalist and author who served as Beijing correspondent for The New Yorker from 2000 to 2007, and is also a contributing writer for National Geographic.
A Princeton graduate who studied under legendary writer John McPhee, Hessler spent years immersed in Chinese culture, producing deeply researched, nuanced works.
His debut, River Town, won the Kiriyama Book Prize, while Oracle Bones was a finalist for the National Book Award.
In 2008, he received the National Magazine Award for excellence in reporting, cementing his reputation as one of the foremost Western voices writing about China.
